I had both lights come on in my e39 and e46. In PA soft its saying its the DSC pump on my e39 and the steering angle sensor in my e46. In my e46 though a bad alignment and crooked steering wheel were triggering the lights. I got an alignment and the lights have not come back in thousands of miles. I’ve been having a few issues with the airbag light coming on in my 2002 E46 330ci and it’s disabling a lot of functions on the instrument cluster like indicators not showing on dash and convertible roof not working. “Body bus - k bus” fault came up on pa soft and I think I’ve narrowed it
With headlights on, -> If the high beam flaps dont actuate but the fogs DO shut off (and dash indicator turns on).. that means your flap actuator or the power going to it is bad. -> If the fogs DONT shut off nor do you get brights nor a dash indicator.. that means your stalk (multifunction switch) is likely bad.
So if you're having this issue, remove the plastic mirror cover on the inside of the door, unplug the mirror, turn the ignition off and remove the key for 2 minutes, insert the key back in the ignition and everything should work again (except from the drivers side mirror you've just unplugged). However, if the mechanism is same and you are feeling a bit in a DIY mood then swap the black boxes and see if the problem goes to the other light. Then you know what the problem area is. You might want to repair the black box: rip it apart and solder the connections again. Or just buy a black box.
